Chloe's Birth Story:

11 days over due on Monday morning I woke up at about 3 am with some cramping. I tried to ignore it and then woke up again at about 4:30 am with much stronger pains.
I decided to take a bath and practice relaxing and my mom started to time the contractions. By late morning my contractions were about 10 minutes apart consistently. I had a midwife appointment at 2. To get my mind off the pain I talked Devin and my mom into taking me to Nordstrom to eat at the cafe. Looking back, I was out of my mind for doing that.
The pain was getting worse and by the time we got to my appointment my contractions were about 7-8 minutes apart. My midwife checked me and I was dilated to a 3 and 90% effaced. She told me I could stay at the hospital or go home and come back later that night.

I was in terrible pain but I told Dev I really wanted to go home. At the time I thought the comfort of home might help me labor better. Once we got home I took a quick bath. Contractions were 3-5 min. apart and we headed straight back to the hospital.

Once I got there I was in another world and I may or may not have been yelling profanities. Pains were coming every 2-3 minutes. I was dilated at a 6 and 100 effaced. I finally hit my breaking point and asked for an epidural. Right after it started calming me down I was checked again and already had moved to an 8.
At about 10:30 I was at a 10 and pushed for two hours. Just when I thought I couldn't push any more my midwife had me reach down and pull out my baby.
Devin and I couldn't have asked for a better birthing experience. We are feeling so thankful and so in love with our Chloe.

  1. Congratulations!! What a beautiful birth story! I am so glad everything went well. Nathan's was a train wreck, culminating in losing his heart rate completely (his heartbeat flatlined; they had a monitor on his head so they knew it was the real deal), and an emergency c-section when I was at a 9 1/2 and 100% effaced...after 12 hours of labor. It is REALLY hard to have your first baby's birth so traumatic, and made me not ever want to have another one for awhile. Now we're expecting again and it's taken so much courage just to get there!
